Biography
Thomas Attwood Walmisley was born on 21 January 1814 in Westminster, London, England. He died on 17 January 1856, at age 41, in 4 Caroline Place, St Mary in the Castle, Hastings.
Studied music under his father and Thomas Attwood; organist to St John the Baptist Church at Croydon 1831; organist to Trinity and St John's Colleges, Cambridge 1 Feb 1833; Mus Bac Cambridge 1833, Music Doc 1848; entered Corpus Christi college, migrated to Jesus College; BA 1838, MA 1841; Professor of Music at the University of Cambridge from 29 April 1836 till his death; composer of church music, most well known for Mass in D. Editor of Attwood's Cathedral Music 1853; compiler of Book of words and anthems in use at various Cambridge colleges 1844; Collections of chants 1845. Died of bronchitis, with Horatio Walmisley (Vicar at Chaldon Rectory, Croydon at that time) present. Portrait by brother Frederick in National Portrait Gallery.
