Biography
Thomas Forbes Walmisley was born on 22 March 1783 in Westminster, London, England. He and
Mary Ann Capon were married on 15 October 1810 in St Margaret's Westminster. He died on 10 July 1866, at age 83, in 19 Earls Court Gardens, Brompton, London.
Attended Westminster School and was a chorister at Westminster Abbey. Studied music under the Hon John Spencer and Thomas Attwood. Assistant Organist to the Female Orphan Asylum 1810-14; Organist at St Martin-in-the-Fields 1814-54; secretary of Concentores Sodales to dissolution in 1847; a professional member of the Catch Club 1827; composed 59 glees, four of which gained prizes; anthems and composer of Sacred Songs 1841; edited his son Thomas Attwood Walmisley's Cathedral Music (1857). Died of paralysis of offiside and chronic bronchitis, with Emma Mary Walmisley present; buried at Brompton Cemetery. A portrait was painted by Mac Caul and in possession of his son Arthur. Captain of St Kpjms Westminster (Militia). Marriage witnessed by John Pritchard King, Mary Ann King and William Elyard Walmisley (brother). Charles Thomas Walmisley's legatee, with extensive property in Ireland, although at his death this amounted to £3,172 in Ireland, probate being resealed in Dublin.
